Mariel Maciá is a
young director supported by multiple international recognitions.
Since 2009 she is the Head of Industry and Market for LesGaiCineMad -
Madrid International LGTB Film Festival.
Graduated as an Image and Sound Designer at the University of Buenos Aires
(Argentina) and specialized in Film Direction in Madrid, she has written
and directed several shortfilms internationally awarded in Spain, the USA and
Brazil. She won the Best Shortfilm award for two consecutive years at Lesgaicinemad (Madrid International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival). In 2006
thanks to her short "Flowers at the Park (or first kisses)" that was also
selected as one of the best women shorts of the world by Curve Magazine
- USA) and the subsequent year with her short "At Home (or love as well)".
She has
been a Jury Member at shortfilm contests and she has thaught Audio-Visual
Narrative Structures and Filmmaking courses in Spain and
Argentina. She is often invited to participate in Round Tables, Seminars
and Congresses regarding independent cinema, women, gender and sexual
diversity issues. From 2007 she is a member of CIMA (Spanish Women Filmmakers
Association).
In 2008 she started her career in dramaturgy and theatrical direction with
the play
"Fancy Pastry
Monologues"*
(original title: Monólogos de Bollería Fina) that has had a massive
success
in Madrid and Barcelona and it´s
currently
on tour in Spain.
